International Society for the Comparative Study of Civilizations

Message from ISCSC President Lynn Rhodes

Importantly, several accomplishments were achieved during the conference which will guide future efforts:

A Declaration of Agreement for collaboration to develop a think-tank of world-leading partners interested in the promotion of wise civilization was signed on September 3, 2021 by the ISCSC, DCCU and the Asian Politics and History Association (APHA), to create a network called “The Council of Wise Civilization™”.

The initiative is to be known as the Civilization, Education, World Center™.

The Declaration of Agreement led to a Resolution of the 50th Anniversary Conference of the ISCSC, with DCCU and APHA to announce the first World Congress for the Comparative Study of Civilizations- “The New Enlightenment – Between Traditions and Challenges” to be held in July 2023 at DCCU.

When the ISCSC was founded in 1961, one of our significant partners was UNESCO. Over the years, the direct links to UNESCO were not as prominent as they once had been. One of our goals during the 50th ISCSC Conference was to re-establish our formal ties with UNESCO. Our partners at DCCU graciously facilitated a meeting for ISCSC Board Member John Grazyel and the UNESCO Chair from Romania where the UNESCO and ISCSC relationship re-engaged and plans for future efforts were discussed.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to the success of this year’s conference; those who helped organize; those who supported the technical aspects; those who provided administrative support; those who attended and those who contributed their ideas and presentations. It was a complex undertaking with many moving parts and overall success.

Please visit the ISCSC website: http://www.iscsc.org where this Fall Update and supporting documents will be found and please give consideration to hosting and planning our next ISCSC conference in 2022.

Warm Regards,

Lynn Rhodes, President

Fall Update 2021

Dear ISCSC Members, Colleagues and Friends,

After having to delay our 2020 conference due to the pandemic, the ISCSC and Dimitrie Cantemir Christian University successfully held the 50th ISCSC Conference in Bucharest this September 2021. The theme, “Civilization at a Crossroads” was present throughout the proceedings and discussions that followed. Presentations were made both in person, online and some via video.

For those of you who were not able to attend, please find the conference schedule and brochure at the following link: https://www.civilization.ucdc.ro/event/ .  At the bottom of the abbreviated schedule, you will find a more comprehensive, full conference program link containing photos of keynote speakers, bios, and abstracts for the papers presented in addition to an overview of the field trip to Bran (Dracula’s) Castle, Azuga, and Cantacuzino Castle and wonderful information about DCCU, the ISCSC and Romania.
